Planning your holiday outfits is one of the more fun aspects of the holiday planning process. I have a great secret to feeling prepared to dress for all of the events that pop up for the season… but it’s a little embarrassing.

You won’t judge me when I tell you this, right?

I didn’t think so.

I usually get up with the crowds and indulge in a little bit of Black Friday shopping. But the part I have never admitted until now…I’m not shopping for anyone but myself.

So selfish of me, right?

Whether it’s because it’s a rare moment where I can shop alone, or because I’m drawn in by the $9.99 sweaters…I can’t say. What I CAN say for certain is that I have found this to be the best time to stock up on a few supplemental pieces for the season. I choose things that I can combine with items that I already own to create completely new holiday outfits.

With that in mind (and also because I’m still limping along with the Fall Challenge….I made that thing waaaay too long guys; live and learn!), I’m sharing my favorite wardrobe updates for the coming season.

Are your a crazy person like me who will brave the stores next week? Or perhaps you prefer to stalk the online sales? Either way, you may want to put a few of these on your list.

Heads up!: I recently joined the RewardStyle affiliate network for bloggers. This means that I may receive commissions when you click my shopping links and make purchases. However, this is at no additional cost to you and this does not impact my reviews or recommendations. I promise to only link to products I truly love from brands I know and trust.

5 Pieces to Update Your Holiday Outfits

1.| Little Black Dress

This is something I’m always looking out for, because it offers so much versatility. If you choose one that isn’t too dressy, you can dress it up or down for any holiday outfit you need.

  • Add colorful tights and boots for the classroom Christmas party.
  • Top with a statement necklace and heels for an office Christmas party.
  • Wear it with booties and leggings for Christmas Eve dinner.

1.| Banana Republic 2.| Nordstrom 3.| JCrew

2.| Black Athleta Pants

Yes, black pants from Athleta get their own category. Because they’re THAT GOOD. If you’ve never owned a pair of these wonder pants… holiday sales are the perfect time to try them.

These are my year-round go to for travel pants, work pants… everything. They look cute with sandals, slip-on sneakers, and sporty tennis shoes. They can be dressed up with heels and a dressy shirt. I honestly could have linked all their styles, but these are my current favorites (I own all of these and wear them regularly).

Perfect for:

  • School Holiday Program
  • Shopping Day
  • Holiday Travel

1.| Stellar Tight 2.| Metro Downtown Jogger 3.| Brooklyn Ankle Pant

3.| Button Down

Button down shirts are holiday workhouses. They can be worn loose with jeans, tied up with a pair of high waisted trousers, or tucked into a polished skirt.

These are my favorite versions:

1.| Banana Republic 2.| JCrew 3.|American Eagle

4.| Statement Jewelry

I am a sucker for statement necklaces because they are the quickest and easiest way to turn an ordinary outfit into something special.

I have recently expanded my love affair to include statement earrings as well. If you have a limited holiday wardrobe budget, this is where you’ll get the biggest bang for your buck.

  • Wear with jeans, heels and a white button down for a classic just dressy enough look that you can wear almost anywhere.
  • Pair with a little black dress for cocktail hour.
  • Quickly add style to a super casual outfit (think track pants and a t-shirt).

1.| Kendra Scott 2.| Bloomingdales 3.|Express

5.| Something Just for Fun

This is where the impulsive “Black Friday” fun kicks in. You never know what you’ll find a great deal on… it may just be a surprise!

That being said, these are my personal picks for fun holiday outfit updates this year. I always buy myself a new pair of PJs, I love my leopard print Rothy’s fiercely, and I’m hoping these faux leather Spanx leggings will help me out a bit during this heavy eating season (fingers crossed).

1.| Rothy’s 2.| Victoria’s Secret 3.| Spanx @ Nordstrom
