I started writing next week’s blog post about bathroom storage ideas today.

Let me tell you what I learned: designers don’t post pictures of the insides of water closets.

I mean, I get it. But the people need to know! So today I’m sharing my own.

It was not something I planned,, but @dpcpainting recommended it to me and I’m so glad. It’s really convenient.

Last week someone who follows me on social asked me “So what exactly is it you DO?”

And I realized that I haven’t been clear on my message (with myself or with prospective clients). That’s confusing!

In the process of trying to find my “thing” I have said yes to almost everything that comes my way professionally…just to see whether it felt right.

But I had a bit of an epiphany last night.

What I really love, what I really EXCEL at, is paying attention to the 🅂🄼🄰🄻🄻 🄳🄴🅃🄰🄸🄻🅂.

✔️ The lighting
✔️ The way colors interact
✔️ The way pieces fit together
✔️ The textures you see + feel

✔️ The art + artifacts that give a room its soul

At my current stage of life I don’t have the capacity to take on many full service or long term design projects (no matter how rewarding that process is).

But as a home stylist or a designer-for-a day I can use my years of experience to make a pretty big difference for the clients I work with in a relatively short period of time.

So what do I DO?

If you hire me as a consultant, here’s what you can expect:

It’s been a little while since I posted a moodboard, so I thought I’d share a dining room collection today. Here are a few notes:

- I’m really into camel leather accents for every space at the moment, and this curvy leather dining bench is uh-mazing, don’t you think? I love the unexpected shape.

- I saw this tree at the store in-person yesterday and thought it was a great buy for the size and price if you’ve been looking for a faux indoor tree.
Just remember to buy a basket to put it in!

- This is a great affordable expanding dining table at a great price and the chairs are a great deal too (sold in sets of 2).

I have a special hobby I still do with my grandparents. We go to estate sales together.

Whenever they see one is coming up we make a date. I usually bring my kids along too.

We wander the tables and dig through piles together. I point out interesting things that the kids have never seen and my grandparents tell us stories about how certain pieces remind them of their childhoods.

These aren’t just “things”. They are the stories of peoples lives. I always walk away with a few little treasures to take home and weave into our own story of home.

We’ve been working on our yard in stages since we moved in 2 years ago.

It’s a BIG lot, so it’s going to take awhile to fully landscape, but it’s been nice to let things develop organically.

We already have the base of the yard by @bloc_landscaping and our beautiful metal structure by @goodluckfab is ready and waiting to be adorned with climbing vines.

Can’t wait to share the magic in a few months when it all comes together 😍

On Saturday I got to attend “Creative Day” at @sunrisestudio_photostudio in Downtown Loveland, and it was so much fun!

They had multiple vignettes set up in the studio for you to practice photography on, including this lovely tablescape by @ritaroseeventdesign and flowers by @wildposies .

A peek at a kitchen project where I shopped, installed and styled EVERYTHING for the client.

This client was starting from scratch with decor so I got to fill the shelves with local art, vintage finds sourced at local Fort Collins flea markets, and new dishes, glassware, and kitchen accessories.

I’m a sucker for a repurposed vending machine. I’ve seen ones that dispense cake in jars, flats to change into after a long night out in Vegas (genius!), even original handmade pieces of ART!

I think this @mythicpress one was so smart located in the Tulsa convention center selling handmade souvenir t-shirts, patches and stickers.

If it’s a snow day… I’m making chicken noodle soup for dinner.

And these frozen egg noodles are my secret weapon. They thicken the broth up juuuust enough and have a delicious chewy texture.

You know what’s really entertaining?

Looking through your old inspiration photos and Pinterest boards.

I kept a home inspiration notebook starting from the time I got my first apartment in college (lots of dark leather, Pottery Barn and shabby chic from Country living).

I can literally see my taste develop before my eyes as you flip through the pages. Some things still track (cottage gardens, cedar shingles, vintage furniture) and others… not at all!

But the journey is what makes us who we are… and develops our unique taste.

Better Together came on the radio at 6:30 this morning as I was driving to the Donut Haus to grab our traditional sprinkled V-Day treats.

I’ve heard this song a million times, but this lyric jumped out at me in a new way today.

The news is full of scary things right now. I know of so many people who are hurting or sick or dying. It’s so futile to make sense of it all.

“How come it’s so hard?”

I know a lot of people hate Valentine’s Day for its forced, commercial feel.

But I’m choosing to look at it as an opportunity to focus on the LOVE that surrounds us in big and small ways.

Growing up it just wasn’t a family celebration without Shirley Temples, and that’s a tradition I’ve carried on for our kids.

The fun twist on this Valentines Day version is that I froze the maraschino 🍒 juice in heart shaped molds the night before for a little extra love.

Perfect for a last minute surprise for kids…or I have it on good authority that this tastes yummy in a glass of Prosecco too ❤️. You could also freeze pomegranate juice in the molds instead!

Space constraints really force you to get creative when you’re designing and hotels are one of the best examples of this.

I always love seeing the creativity that designers use to add comfort and function to the 4-wall, basic layout of a hotel room.

There are a lot of cool touches in this hotel room at The Thompson Dallas that could be incorporated into your home too!

✔️ Create a built in fabric or leather headboard that spans the length of your bedroom wall. Bonus points for incorporating reading lights like they did here!

✔️ Create a cool 3-D layered art effect by using wood blocks to lift one frame off the wall on top of another.

✔️ Tuck a floating countertop between awkward bump outs in a wall and finish it off with a cube and mirror to make a compact vanity counter.

✔️ Use the space in front of large windows by creating a floating bar with shelves mounted in front of the window.

Light and views still shine through, but you get added storage space and a fun design element!

My friend Kelly sent me a DM with a game-changing tip for cleaning up your iPhotos:

〰️ Every day, type the current date into the search bar of your photos app and clean up that day’s photos.

I’ve been doing this and have deleted tons of old work photos, screenshots, duplicates, and just generally bad quality images. It is quick and feels really satisfying to be making headway.

As an unexpected benefit, I’ve been enjoying looking back at old images and reliving happy memories like my trip to Key Weat last year to celebrate my Mom’s birthday.

I took all these photos of inspiring spaces (The Hemingway House 😍) and they’ve just been sitting on my phone!

After a solid 3 years of yearning for the leather camp stools from a certain beachy furniture retailer, I have come to terms with the fact that I will never be ok with paying $600 apiece for a small folding stool.

One of my favorite parts of traveling to new places is soaking up all the beautiful details of the spaces I encounter.

We dropped into @mama_lolitas_mexican in Broomfield yesterday and enjoyed a great lunch… with a side of design inspiration.

I love how they added the circular lighting elements and I ESPECIALLY love how they incorporated this arch detail into the wall behind the bar.

It’s almost enough to make me think about incorporating this look into our basement somehow…. I think I’ll file it away into “future project ideas”.

I had to use a DJ Khaled song for this reel, duh (ANOTHER ONE!)

Seriously though, just like I said… sprucing up the area under my bathroom sink made me want to clean out under my kitchen sink.

Repurposed most of what I already had, only had to buy a low drawer (check out how functional the space under the riser is now!!!) and one tall stacking unit (because my dishrags were falling all over the place and driving me crazy).

This project took me 20 min start to finish, including cleanup. And now every time I open this cabinet, life’s a little bit better.

When people say they don’t know where to start getting organized my advice is always the same.

“Start with one small space.”

This area under the bathroom sink took less than 15 minutes (and no, I’m not exaggerating). And it feels SO much better when I open it.

Look how much more easy everything is to access now! The bright room stackable cabinet shelves and bin clips from Target are 🔥🔥🔥 because they magically help you use the vertical space under your sinks or in cabinets.

If you’re looking for a quick-win weekend project… this is a winner.
