Let's Get Organized

What Is The {Organization} Project?

Have you ever felt the need to get out and DO something, but had zero idea where to start?

It’s a strange condition; I’d liken it to being lost in the wilderness…without a map.

I’ve been struggling with this search for productivity and purpose – and it’s frustrating.

I am definitely an ideas person, and possibilities come easily to me. For a long time, I thought my calling might be to open a small business. Vocational ideas pop in and out of my head daily.

On a side note… I still think an “ice cream truck” serving up margaritas is a stellar opportunity waiting to be tapped.

But I digress.

I have spoken some of these dreams, testing them on my tongue to see what they felt like in broad daylight. A handful have made it to the written stage. Still, nothing seems quite right.

One thing I’ve learned about the ideation stage of a new project is that, for me, it is easy to become stuck there. While it is a wonderful and delicious thing to marinate in the realm of possibility for a time… eventually you have to put one foot in front of the other and move forward. It doesn’t matter which direction you choose. It’s the only way to reach your eventual destination. I still don’t know where I’m going, but I know it’s time to start walking.

Why Organization?

I started working with Arica at Colorado Staging + Design last Spring, and I fell in love with the staging process. Everything about this job is a perfect fit for me: every day is different and every job requires problem solving, creativity, and a little heavy lifting. I love getting the chance to peek inside people’s homes and see the way they live.

Above all, I adore the feeling of walking out of a home and knowing I made a positive impact in the homes and lives of the clients we serve.

As time went on, we realized that there was a need for organization services for the clients, especially those who were preparing to sell their homes and move. Arica began booking some organizing and packing jobs as an add on to our staging services, and these jobs sent a jolt of electricity through my system. We were quick, efficient and incredibly effective at going through clients belongings and creating order. The amount of visible change that we affected in a 2-hour window was sometimes shocking, even to me. We were getting paid for our services, but we were also helping improve people’s lives. For me, that realization was like the proverbial lightning bolt.

Every job we completed moved my internal compass a bit. Before long, I realized that the direction I had been seeking was now creeping onto my radar. When I reflected on these experiences, I knew where to focus my energy: empowering women to better their lives through home organization.

I’m still happily working with Arica on projects for staging clients, but I knew it was time to branch out and start something of my own as well. This brings me to where I am today and the {organization} project.

The {Organization} Project

I had coffee with a friend yesterday and she asked me,

“So… what is it exactly that you’ve been doing?”

I smiled, because I’m sure to anyone who has been following me the past few months, the evolution in my social presence may be a little bit confusing. I have had to ask myself the same question, if I’m honest. .

Here is my explanation… in case anyone else is curious.

The {organization} project has two parts:

1.) To share free information and resources via my various media channels (Facebook page, FB group, Instagram, and blog) with women who are looking for small, simple ways to increase their level of organization.

My goal is to help readers simplify the processes that affect their daily lives (scheduling, meal planning, getting dressed) and in doing so, alleviate some of the frustrations that come from disorganization. I believe that this has a powerful effect on happiness and one’s ability to make space for the things that truly bring us joy.

2.) To bring the positive emotional benefits of completing an organizing project to women who would benefit from a little extra love in their lives.

I have witnessed firsthand the benefit of our organizing sessions, but I recognize that hiring professional help is not something many women can do financially. Even if it is something they can afford, many more women feel like they should be able to do it themselves. Therefore, they will not allow themselves the luxury.

In searching for a way to share my heart (and organization skills) with others, I’ve come to the realization that this is a service I want to offer freely as a means of lifting others up.

The idea behind the {organization} project is to create a “share the love” type system, where I can bring a little joy to my clients, and then allow them to spread the goodwill to someone in their circle who they want to bless.

How It Works

1.) Each month I will set a limited amount of free 2 hour sessions.
2.) I will consult with and execute the projects for selected women who have been nominated through friends and/or the website.
3.) Upon completion of the project, the clients will be given a card to pass on to another deserving woman, who I will serve the following month if they are interested in scheduling a session.

Nomination Criteria

There is no set nomination criteria, however any information I receive regarding why someone deserves to receive the service will be considered when selecting the next month’s session recipients.

If many submissions are submitted, I will make selections and place additional nominations on a backup list. Although my goal is to help as many people as possible, I will not be able to accept every nomination if I receive a large volume of nominations. I have a limited amount of time to serve (I am providing this volunteer service primarily while my children are at school, so their schedule will affect the number of sessions I can complete each month)!

Who Can Be Nominated?

I’m looking to serve many types of women. Some reasons for nomination might include:

  • Financial Difficulty
  • Divorce
  • Health Issues
  • Recent Loss
  • Caregiver Responsibilities

These are specific examples, but there doesn’t have to be a specific life challenge. Maybe your friend works really hard and you think she could use a break. Or your grandmother has been feeling lonely. If it’s on your heart, it is a valid reason.

Nomination Process

Send me a message via FB messenger or the button below to submit nominations.

3 Ways To Help

If you’re interested in the {organization} project and my mission, here are 3 ways to connect:

1.) Share This Post

I would love to broaden my reach so that I can connect with as many deserving women as possible… and to do that I need to move beyond my existing social circles!

2.) Nominate Someone Special

Send me a FB Message or submit a nomination by clicking the button above.

3.) Volunteer

If you’re an organized person who lives in Northern Colorado and want to experience the power of this process, pass me a note. I would love to invite you out on a volunteer job to help me spread the love.

Thank you for supporting me with this experiment.

Will it work? I’m not sure, but I’m excited to try. Thank you for taking the time to follow along on the journey with me.

I am so grateful for Suzy's simple and intuitive organizing ideas.  She put so much function into my closet, dresser, + kitchen cabinets in a matter of 30 minutes.  It was great!  Plus, her easy going approach made the time fun and stress free!  Thanks, Suzy!

Suzy is beyond amazing and fantastic to work with! I had her come to my office to help with organizing. I had put off putting so many files and papers away for so long, I was overwhelmed, didn’t know where to begin and I did not even want to work in my office anymore. Suzy came in, and within a few hours had the whole office organized. She went and got all the supplies for organizing, labeled everything and every item had a place. It was such a relief to have her help- can’t wait to hire her for help in other areas that need organizing- she will not disappoint!
