It can be: - purely decorative in the entry - accessible extra storage in the kitchen/dining room (a pantry filled with cute baskets?) -linen storage in a hall or bathroom -office storage The options are endless. I’m not trying to sell you this cabinet (although I would totally recommend it!). You’re being unrealistic about what the end result will look like long-term. And when you fail to achieve maintaining a “perfect” result… you get discouraged and give up. This is real life. Your house (like mine) will be MAYBE 25-50% cute at any given time… if you’re lucky. The remaining areas in my house tend to resemble a cross between a Goodwill donation drop off center and an abandoned project graveyard. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Did you see the overflowing bin full of balls and sports equipment in the first few seconds of this video?!?! I left that in the reel for a reason. It’s really sitting there.) If you have a family, you cannot escape this reality… so let’s just celebrate the small efforts when we make them ❤️. One shelf. I read Marie Kondo’s book a few years ago and on I read Marie Kondo’s book a few years ago and one concept that really stuck with me was “not saving the good stuff.” This applies to perfume (I’ve had expensive bottles spoil, barely worn). It applies to beauty products (so use the good 💄). And it absolutely applies to heirloom silver, the crystal glasses you got for your wedding, and family china. What’s the point of keeping it if you never savor it and enjoy it? Tomorrow is the beginning of December. I’m thankful for SO many things this year, but e I’m thankful for SO many things this year, but especially the newfound sense of calm and the ease of accepting imperfection I’m embracing as we move into this holiday season. It might be one of the top things on my list. The odd sense of calm and surrender feels foreign to me; it literally made me pause last night when things didn’t exactly go to plan. No stress? No holding back frustrated words? Who am I?!? 🎄The tree stand I bought didn’t arrive on time. 🎄The substitute stand I rushed to pick up wouldn’t hold our tree up. 🎄Alllllll the Christmas lights I bought last year are unfathomably dead. Needless to say, our “night-before-Thanksgiving tree trimming tradition” didn’t go as planned. But we got a beautiful tree and had a nice conversation with the man at the lot. We finally got a picture of our entire family (it’s been awhile…). And we watched Home Alone in the substitute glow of a “backup tree” I set beside the undecorated one. It may not have been “the usual,”… but I think it was even better.
