What To Consider When Choosing Neutral Kids Bedroom Paint Colors
While a kids’ bedroom is a great place to branch out and have a little fun, I do think that there are a few important things to keep in mind as you make your selection.
I recommend choosing a color that:
- Coordinates with your home’s existing color palette
- Will grow with your child
- Pairs with a variety of accent colors (luckily, most neutrals do!)

After The Storm | SW 9685
I love a dark blue and this one fits the bill. It’s very similar to one of my other all-time favorites, Hale Navy.
My favorite pairings for this shade of blue are grays, blues, and browns. But a bright pop of orange, green or red also compliments it nicely!

Cascades | SW 7623
Love blue? AND green? You don’t have to choose when you choose a shade that has hints of both.
This gorgeous color pairs well with metal tones like brass or black.
Or add a bright, punchy accent color like lilac to make it more playful. I based my design concept for this space off a fun, floral wallpaper from Spoonflower.

Evergreen Fog | SW 9130
As good as a neutral grey but so much more soothing. This grounding and calm shade is the perfect neutral Sherwin Williams paint color for kids’ rooms that will grow with the child.
It would be a great choice for a gender-neutral nursery!

Guantlet Gray | SW 7019
Grey, but warmer. This pairs well with most other neutrals. Try with a soft pink or even a pop of unexpected red, as shown in the design below.

Grassland | SW 6163
Just the slightest hint of green. Great if you’re interested in adding a little color… but you’re also afraid to go too bold.
I would pair this with a deeper green or blue. It allso looks great with a crisp white trim, bedding and layers of neutral colored textures for a soft cozy space.

Icy Lemonade | SW 1667
I’m not typically drawn to yellow, but I saw this one on the 2025 trend forecast and something about it spoke to me. I think it’s the muted nature? Or maybe it reminds me of butter… one of my favorite things in life.

I recently unearthed this photo of my high school bedroom makeover circa 2000 and the color is surprisingly similar.
Back then I paired it with white, textured accent pieces and cornflower blue. Honestly, I think the color combo still works. What do ya’ think?
Passive | SW 7064
Some may say that gray is on it’s way out but it had a good long run for a reason. It’s calming, versatile, and plays well with others.
Freshen up a room with a color drench (floor, ceiling, trim) in this pretty silver color and accent it with modern, clean-lined furniture and an of-the-moment feminine accent color (perhaps burgandy? ) for a contemporary teen look.
Or match it with traditional menswear inspired fabrics (chambray, plaid flannel) for a timeless boy’s room.

Redend Point | SW 9081
I don’t usually go for pinks but for this color I would make an exception!
Far from being overly sweet, this shade is on the earthy side. It would look gorgeous paired with warm unlacquered brass, creamy whites, and traditional wood furniture. This neutral Sherwin WIlliams paint color would be right at home in an English cottage-style bedroom with vintage furnishings and a hand sewn quilt, don’t you think?

Stargazer | SW 9636
This is another great gender neutral option that gives you color yet feels calming and gentle.
Pair it with a crisp black and white palette or pull in a soft floral fabric in similar hues.
This one is so good… you could even just paint the cieling this color for a totally fun (and cost effective) update.
