An Earthy Purple Sherwin WIlliams Paint Palette (+ How to Use it)
Quick: name one decor item in your house that’s purple.
If you’re anything like me… this is probably hard. Purple is a seriously underrepresented color in home decor. Maybe it’s too feminine? Not “netural “enough? I’m not sure why, but you just don’t see a lot of purple decor in real life.
And I think that’s a shame, because this color has a relaxing, calming effect and there are a lot of versatile shades of this hue that pair well with the neutrals we all know and love. In this post I’ll be sharing a few purple picks and giving you some ideas about how you might go about incorporating them into your own home.
Welcome to the second post in my blog series here on the home decor blog: Monthly Paint Palettes.

Perfectly Purple Sherwin Williams Paint Colors:
Here are the Sherwin Williams paint colors in shades of lavender, plum and mauve that make up this earthy color scheme:
SW 6272 | Plum Brown
This is a deep, rich purple that pairs well with other warm neutral Sherwin Williams paint colors (which is probably why I love it!). This earthy, grounding color would be an amazing base color if you want to try color-drench a space (think a moody master bedroom). Covering the walls, ceiling and trim in this soothing shade would create such a calming space!
SW 6284 | Plum Dandy
This pinkish purple feels youthful and energetic- it would make a great backdrop for a kids’ room, don’t you think?
If this color feels too bright, consider adding it in subtle doses as an accent color- perhaps a throw blanket, pillow, or fun piece of art might be a good place to test the waters.
SW 7630 | Raisin
This color is mostly brown with purple undertones, which means you can use it like any other brown for a subtle hint of purple.
It will pair well with neutrals and I would also love it with a grounding blue such as Sherwin WIlliams 6228 (Refuge).
SW 6992 | Beguiling Mauve
Mauve had a moment when I was a kid- I vividly remember riding in the back seat of my Grandma’s Buick and let me tell you – that mauve plush interior felt fancy.
There has been some resurgence of the color (which falls between pink and violet on the color wheel) in design over the past few years and I’m here for it! It’s a fun unexpected shade for an elegant dining room or a personality-packed powder room and looks great with a deep brown, as shown on this color palette.
how to Use These Purple Sherwin WIlliams Paint Colors:
This versatile palette works beautifully in a variety of settings. Here’s how you can use this color palette in your home design.
Color Drenching
Choose your favorite shade as your main wall color and consider painting the doors, ceiling, and trim as well. I’m partial to dark and moody spaces at the moment so I think Plum Brown would be an amazing starting point!
Next, layer in the other colors through your decor. Choose soft furnishings such as a couch or a chair, in one of the other purple hues.

If you have cabinets, might as well paint them purple too!
Layer in more color through accessories such as:
- Throw Pillows With a Pattern in Various Purple Shades
- A Purple Throw Rug
- Purple Wall Art

Rejuvenate A Neutral Master Suite With A Punch of Purple
If you already have a neutral base in your bedroom, try adding these purple colors in a little at a time as shown in this Pottery Barn photo below.

Purple Quilt | LINK
Adding a fresh duvet cover or quilt in a fun color is an easy way to get a completely new look! I love the traditional look of the purple quilt in the photo above and I am obsessed with this “FIG” colored gauze duvet bedding set from Quince.

Even something as simple as adding a purple throw pillow or two to your existing bedding can make a big difference.

Warm Kitchen Cabinet Paint
Looking for a more interesting color to paint your kitchen cabinets? This video makes a strong case for a deep brown with purple undertones. SW Raisin looks great with brass and copper accents and creamy whites if you’re looking for a warm cottage-kitchen look.
@the_couchman_crew This color is everything! Dark brown is in style, for good reason! Sherwin Williams Dark Raisin did NOT disappoint. What do you think? Are you loving the warm browns this season?

Cozy Bathroom
This purple zelliege tile would make a pretty base for a subtle purple bathroom design. I love how the variation of the tile pulls together all of the different shades from this month’s color palette so beautifully!
Pair it with a warm brown vintage-style vanity and thick cream-colored Turkish towels for a touch of quiet luxury.
Oh, and don’t forget something green! A touch of sage-y green looks really lovely with these neutral purple colors. You can easily add this in a bathroom by incorporating a potted plant or a bundle of eucalyptus.
