I don’t think much about coat closet organization in summer.
I’m always surprised the first time I have to dig gloves out for the season.
It’s usually because we’ve decided at the last minute to stop by a high school football game after dinner. I hastily reach in and grab a couple of pairs on the way out the door “just in case” it’s colder than I expected.
After months of forgetting that our cold weather gear even exists, I am usually pretty optimistic that I will have a matching set for every family member. Sometimes that’s the case… but usually someone has to wear purple sparkly unicorn mittens against their will because that’s all I could locate.
Don’t let this happen to you!
Now is the perfect time to take stock of the contents of your coat closet organization (and avoid stressful last minute scrambling).
This is a perfect power hour project since a hall closet is a relatively small, compact space.
If you’ve been following along and had interest in completing an organizing project (but have been skeptical about the time and effort involved), this is a great place to test the waters.
Find an hour in your schedule where you can focus on this space in your home. Set yourself up for success:
- Arrange to be free from distraction
- Read through the checklist below (so you have an idea of what you’re getting into)
- Gather the required supplies
- Turn on some music or a podcast
- Set a timer to keep you on track
Commit 1 hour to this project now to make your life easier later.

Now give yourself a great big pat on the back and check this task off your list.
Go ahead and feel a little smug next time you’re able to tell someone EXACTLY where to go to find their stuff, You deserve that satisfaction. You’ve been working hard.
xoxo,

P.S. Want to tackle another project? My Coffee Station Cabinet and Home Gym organizing projects are perfect for this time of year too.
