Looking outside, I see that this morning brought fog. The snow from last night covers the brown, dormant trees with icy crystals and everything is grey.

I’m all about embracing the cozy this time of year – think fuzzy socks, a steaming mug, and the quiet beauty of this winter’s day viewed from a warm window seat. And what better way to capture that feeling than with a carefully curated paint palette that brings those outdoor colors inside?

Welcome to the first installment of a brand new series here on the home decor blog: Monthly Paint Palettes.

This month, we’re diving headfirst into a stunning combination of Sherwin Williams greys and browns, perfect for creating a calm and inviting atmosphere in your home.

This one is perfect for those of you who want to dip your toe into adding more color to your home…but are kinda scared of color (I see you!). The great thing about all these shades is that they are all NEUTRAL. They will blend well with all the other whites, creams, greys and browns you already have in your home.

Whether you’re looking for a whole-home palette, dreaming of a serene master bedroom or bathroom, or simply want to inject a touch of cozy calm into a comfortable corner, this palette has you covered.

The Perfect Grey and Brown Sherwin Williams Paint Colors:

Here are the grey and brown Sherwin Williams paint colors that make up this cozy grey and brown color scheme:

This is a soft, neutral color that pairs well with other soft-neutral Sherwin Wiliiams paint colors (which is probably why I love it!). This earthy, grounding brown would be an amazing base color if you want to try color-drench a space (maybe a dining room or home office?). Covering the walls, ceiling and trim in this soothing shade would feel like a warm hug!

At first glance, this cool neutral might seem to just be “grey” but it actually has a hint of blue. This is a great neutral color to use as an accent on trim or cabinetry. It would also make a great base wall color in any room where you want the mood to feel cool and calm!

I have always been drawn to this color when I open my paint deck. It’s a strong minimal and modern grey; even though it’s a neutral paint color it still makes a statement (and it’s depth makes it more interesting than a lot of other grey paint colors, in my opinion).

Not quite black… but almost. This inky blue Sherwin Williams paint color is gorgeous. Consider painting a powder room this shade for a moody look! It looks great with light, neutral decor elements such as crisp white tile or a soft, creamy linen.

Where to Use These Cozy Sherwin WIlliams Paint Colors:

This versatile palette works beautifully in a variety of settings. Here’s how I would interpret this color palette into an actual design for various rooms in your home.

Cozy Living Room

Use the brown as your main wall color, introducing deeper blue-black accents sparingly (perhaps on a piece of furniture or an accent wall). Incorporate a mix of the greys through your textiles (aka rugs, pillows, and bedding), artwork, or smaller accent pieces.

In this AI rendering you can see how these elements blend together. Brown on the wall pairs with a white trim and varying shades of grey repeat in the rug, wall art, pillows and table decor. This image doesn’t show the Sherwin-Williams Inkwell color, but I would add it in layers with the pillows and possibly some accent pieces on the coffee table.

Serene Master Suite

Set the tone for a soothing master bedroom by covering the walls in a soft blue-grey (ONLINE) and then warm it up with cozy brown bedding and wooden furniture.

Add an accent bench or chairs in a plush deep-grey velvet (like Sherwin-WIlliams Before the Storm) to create a warm and restful haven and finish with accent decor in the remaining tones.

Or here is another way to use a similar palette, starting with Sherwin-Williams ONLINE as the wall color.

Spa-Like Bathroom:

Think thick grey waffle towels, a vanity painted in earthy, warm brown (like Sherwin Williams Homestead Brown) and a moody deep-blue tile (in a shade similar to Sherwin-Williams INKWELL). This palette would be the perfect start to achieving spa vibes at home.

Beyond the Paint:

Remember, choosing a palette and adding a fresh color is just the starting point!

To truly capture that cozy winter feeling, you’ll want to do some light styling as well.

Check out this article for some cozy living room styling tips (that you can apply to every room in your house, tbh).

Basically, you’ll want to consider incorporating natural textures like wool, linen, and wood, along with soft lighting and plenty of comfortable seating.

Think candles, fuzzy faux fur blankets (I’m obsessed with these ones), and perhaps even some fake birch logs in a pretty basket for a luxe touch.
