SUBTLY Spooky: Minimal Black + White Halloween Porch Decor
Raise your hand if you started thinking about your Halloween decor the SECOND you turned the calendar to September. I am definitely raising my hand over here and I’m especially excited to start working on my plans for some minimal Halloween porch decor!
When I’m planning holiday decorations, I try to plan so that I can gradually increase the seasonal element over time. In the Fall that might mean I add a few mums and a new mat at the beginning of the season, and then I gradually ramp up the volume of pumpkins and spooky accents as we get deeper into the month of October.
As usual, I like to start with the same basic colors and materials I incorporate throughout my whole-home decorating scheme (black, white, and natural fibers/materials) and then build from there.
Here are my picks for this year’s minimal Halloween porch decor at our house (it’s a spider theme in honor of the rampant arachnid party we’ve been hosting all summer long).
Layered Front Porch Mat + Rug
A classic cabana stripe is always my favorite, and it is perfect minimal black and white Halloween front porch decor!
Here I layered an outdoor cabana stripe rug with a heavy duty woven door mat in a versatile neutral.
I bought this mat at the beginning of the summer and it is THE BEST doormat I have purchased. It doesn’t show dirt and debris as much as the coir ones and it will look good layered on your front porch all year long.

Black Bunting
I started putting traditional flag bunting on our fence for Independence Day and I loved how simple and festive it was. Truly a low effort, high reward decorating option.
This bunting comes in a variety of colors including black and orange for a more traditional Halloween palette and also a cool black and purple version.
Simply staple to a wooden fence or attach to a porch railing using zip ties. Voila! Your decorating is done.

Copper Accents
I love the warmth of copper all year long, but it is especially perfect in the Fall.
I incorporated a gorgeous rust metallic outdoor side table as well as lightweight tall planters (they come in multiple sizes). These planters are lightweight, hold up to the outdoor elements and create a luxe look for your exterior entrance.

Striped Candy Bowl
We are never home to hand out candy to trick or treaters because we’re still out with our own kids. I always leave a bowl of candy on the porch just in case, and this bowl fits the theme perfectly.
I love how it echoes the black and white stripes on the outside but has just a touch of spooky spiderweb detail inside!

Faux Mums
Every year I buy a ton of live mums with hopeful optimism that maybe, just maybe, this will be the year I can keep them alive. And every year… I definitely don’t.
These faux mums might be a little pricey upfront but if you are a mum-killer like me they will recoup your initial investment after a couple years. And look way better!
I have several urn fillers from this site and they are good quality (check out their Christmas selection too!).

Spider Wreath
Black, subtle, and spooky! This maple leaf wreath lights up and is the perfectly minimal accent for your front door.

Black and White Outdoor Pillow
If you love decorating with black and white year round ad much as I do, this outdoor pillow is a perfect choice.
It has an awesome textural quality that will soften up your minimal black and white Halloween porch decor and help you bring cozy indoor feeling outdoors.

Modern Adirondack Chair
If you are wanting to invest in durable chairs for your front porch, these would be my pick! They are comfortable, look great, and are so easy to clean/maintain!
If you’re more of a rocking chair or porch swing person… they make those too!
