Have you heard horror Stories?
If you are beginning the process of building new home you’ve probably heard about
- Budget Nightmares
- Relationship Struggles
- Contractor Issues
- Disappointment + Delays
Well meaning people love to tell us about the hard parts of the building process in an effort to help us avoid making the same mistakes they did. Their hearts are in the right place, but it’s enough to make you seriously wonder:
Is building a new home something I should really be considering?

I know I don’t actually know you, but the answer is YES. You can do this.

planning for success
I’m going to start by sharing my #1 piece of advice for building a new home: get organized before you start.
A year ago I was in the trenches of building a new home.
It felt like every day was consumed by site visits, finish decisions, packing our house, and keeping track of the people, bills and issues that needed my attention as a homeowner.
You know what?
It was totally worth it. Our finished home is perfectly suited to the way our family lives, and every day I marvel at how much easier life is because things just seem to flow.
Were there delays? Absolutely! Did things go wrong? Of course.
Still, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Aside from our amazing contractor and subcontractors, I believe that the #1 factor contributing to our project’s success was my focus on staying organized from the planning phase to handover.
I have a leg up in this department because organization comes very naturally to me (people pay me to organize their spaces…dream job!).
But the strategies, tools, and systems I used during our build can be easily implemented by anyone who has a desire to stay organized during the home building process.
You don’t have to be a natural born organizer or even consider yourself an organized person to do this stuff. I believe that just being aware of your options and learning a few basic strategies can make a world of difference not only in your building experience… but also the finished project. Your new home!
